Buy Catwoman #25
If anyone was wondering what I've been up to, I've been fine tuning the food part of my site. Not much there yet, but I'm still working on it. I have some parts of it up online but it isn't pretty. Other than that, I've been working on getting my flatting pages done. The first issue of Catwoman we flatted for colourist Laurie Kronenberg came out this week.

Must Buy!

Mmmmmm.. Panda...

When I was shopping at Costco, and I saw dumplings with a Panda on the package, I immediately thought of the Simpsons episode when there were protesters at Kentucky Fried Panda and Homer said "It's Finger Ling-Ling good" When I saw that it was Ling-Ling brand dumplings. I almost doubled-over into my shopping cart.

Imperial System of Measurement
I can't quite grasp the imperial system and I find recipes are rather inconsistent at using these measurements effectively for my cooking purposes. I came across one called dram the other day, which I looked up as being equal to 1/8 of a fluid ounce. Like as if I can measure 1/8 of an ounce with what I have. I later find out that:

1 dram = 1/8 fluid ounce = 1/8 cup = 2 tablespoons

Sheesh! I can measure 2 tablespoons no problem.

Now if it was metric, it would say 30 milliliters. And for some reason, metric in cooking sticks with milliliters and liters. The don't goof off with centiliters or deciliters. Not like it's hard for me to figure out, but sticking to one or two simple units of measurement sure makes a hellua lot of sensse to me.

Speaking of measuring, I found out that there are official cooking measurements for the terms pinch, dash, smidgen and nip. So far I figured out that:

one pinch = 1/8 teaspoon
one dash = 1/16 teaspoon
one smidgen = 1/32 teaspoon

As for the nip, I do not have any data to back me up on this but I think it equals 1/64 teaspoon (if I follow the previous pattern).

I decided I have to make a chart of cooking measurement equivalents. I'll post it when I have it done.

I Wasn't Kidding When I Said I Just Woke Up!

That's me making video files of the house being torn down across the street. Nice hair!

Dean put up a picture gallery of the demolition.

Good Morning
Dean woke me up just on time to see the destruction of the house across the street.

We took a zillion photos and about 11 gigabytes of video of the house coming down. It was pretty cold to sit out on the porch for a couple of hours but worth it. I imagine Dean will sort through all of our footage and post the best shots. I'll post a link when available.

New Cool Girls!
Images originally from: http://www1.ttcn.ne.jp/~DollsDrugKingdom/toy2002-3.html.

(If you didn't know, I'm obsessed with these Japanese dolls made by Takara).

CG-13 99 Red Balloons

CG-14 Kamikaze

The note below says "Go For Break". I think it is supposed to be "Go For Broke",
unless she is the Lazy Cool Girl.

Oh, check out XIXOX. Sweet Potatoes she looks great! She is for pre-order right now at Hobby Link Japan.

By the way, I'v decided to stop collecting the "Cy Girls" (North American released versions) Because those SUCK-ASS BASTARDS AT BLUE BOX TOYS refuse to release Revenger Girl. And it is nearly impossible for me to find the low production run Nikki. I'm two Cool Girls down from having the whole collection. I'm buying straight from Japan from now on.

Quebec Law 101 Now Effects Video Games
Quebec's controversial Language Law yanks 75% of the video games off of retailers' shelves. Best to read the report for yourself.

http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=316

So far from what I've seen from my past purchases, Sega, Lucas Arts, Nintendo and Square already makes bilingual packaging. Konami of America has stated that they will not be producing French Language packaging. They've decided to drop the Quebec market.

I've Seen Everything Now
Today, Megan came to visit Dean and I and we went, with Scott, to the Peavy Mart. It is a decent department store with a little bit of everything. I could not believe the number of John Deere theme merchandise they had, including knives, thermometers, toys, lamps, clocks, dishes and more. Pretty amazing merchandise for a tractor company. The one product that just stunned me was the John Deere decorative lights. I swear, John Deere is more over-merchandised than Pokemon or Mary-Kate and Ashley.

AVP
So what the heck is up with Fox's marketing department abbreviating all of their movies? There is this new movie coming out called AVP. WHO CARES?!?! So I find out it is actually Aliens Vs. Predator so I do care. Way to advertise, Fox. I don't understand the abbreviations. All it does is make me angry. Anyway, there is a teaser out which is, like all teasers, useless! And there is a 5 minute interview with director Paul W. Anderson which you can check out if you want to see him set up the movie using storyboards and concept art.

Comic Book Drought
I haven't bought comics in about six weeks now. Vegreville has no comic store and moving ate up much of my time. I'm thinking I'm going to have to switch to a mail order service. Might as well update my reservation list.

Getting the axe for sure is Teen Titans. I like the artwork but I am not hot on the writing at all. As much as I love the characters from Young Justice, I can't stand the fact that the comic basically ignore the histories of these characters, and changed their personalities in such a way that I don't believe these are the same heroes. That probably wouldn't bug me if it wasn't for the fact that strong, really strong emphasis is placed on Teen Titans history. Reading Teen Titans makes it feel like writer Geoff Johns was thinking "COOL! I wanna put all this cool Titans history into this book and show off how much I know about the DC Universe but I know nothing about Young Justice so I'll just make it up because I can." I also don't enjoy the amount of "shock value" throughout the issues I have read.

I'm probably coming off as a Young Justice zombie, but if I'm not enjoying a book, why should I be spending the money on it? There are other things I do not like about the book, but that reflects on my personal taste in comics so I won't dwell on it. I was going to try the book out for about six issues. Who knows? Maybe it won't be so bad if I read a full story arch. So I thought about it. And the decision came down to this:

The fact that even though I am against buying variant covers of comics, I'd rather be buying the holofoil covers of the Street Fighter comic than buy Teen Titans.
