Candy Day!
You know what? It is much much too cold to dress like Kylie Minogue today (boo early Canadian winters!) Not like I had my brother here to be my back-up dancer. Or any place for us to go and robot-dance. I simply wore a black pvc jumpsuit and declared myself a Charlie's Angel-asian type. I handed out candy to the following tonight:

1-angel in a parka
1 fairy in a parka
1-little bunny (full body fuzzy suit)
3-little unicorns (full body fuzzy suits) who kept telling me we had the best decorated house "in the WHOOOLE Vegreville."
2-goths wearing parkas

They were all girls. No boys. Boys suck because obviously they hate Halloween.

October 25th: Christmas
Today Dean and I drove up to the city and went shopping at Ikea. My sister made today Christmas for me and I bought some shelf inserts and some ugly little green knobs. Yay! Thanks, Suzette! Stanley bought himself a "damaged" glass showcase that was marked down by 50%. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Dean bought himself the Indiana Jones DVD box set but that was tedious because he put a $10 deposit on it at Future Shop (to get the exclusive bonus DVD) and they ran out of bonus DVDs. So he had to drive across the city to a Future Shlop that had them in stock. They ended up giving him two bonus DVDs, a Max Payne Toque and an Electronic Arts Toque all for free.

The day was much much longer than we expected it to be and we didn't get back home until 2am. Now I must sleep!

Friendly Advice
If your gut feeling is to remove the peeling, bubbling wallpaper, do it. Don't listen to other people telling you and your boyfriend that "just a coat of paint will do wonders" or "paint will make it look brand new". They are so wrong. After one coat of paint on the wallpaper, you'll realize that this crap still needs to be peeled in a big way. But then it's too late to do anything about it tonight because the hardware store is now closed. I hate wallpaper.

While I'm at it, if your boyfriend's dad bought paint rollers from Wal-Mart, don't let your boyfriend use it. They'll break and fly into his face.

The Bathroom
It has come to my attention that our bathroom sucks. The only storage in the room is are very narrow , very deep shelves that are partially blocked by a pipe. Plus reaching back there involves gutting yourself with the sink. There is no medicine cabinet and no counter to place a toothbrush on. Currently, our bathroom products are stored under the sink in a comic box. I can barely reach the toilet paper if I put it in the dispenser. I can't stand the shower curtains. But then I hate jesters.

Our impractical bathroom

Dean thinks we should go for this bathroom suite. We're eyeing the wash basin (the sink is nice and deep), wall cabinet, and the drawer unit on wheels. I think we might be able to fit the wall shelf, but I don't know if we need that much storage. We'll see. Choosing this suite is a good excuse for us to get rid of the awful cheap gold-chrome covered fixtures. Yay!

Curse You Weak American Dollar
The Canadian dollar is the highest it has ever been in ten years. One U.S. dollar is equal to $1.31 Canadian. Ouch! I get pain in American and that really hurts. There was a time I made $1.54 Canadian for every U.S. dollar I got paid. In fact, it has become cheaper for me to buy some items from the U.S. and ship it to me here in Canada than it is for me to buy it at a local store. I won't do that because I'd rather shop locally but for some items, say a $20 CND book, I can buy and ship to me for $13 CND. Tempting, indeed.

I'm starting to stress a bit about moving to Vegreville. First time moving from the city and I hate moving. I really hate moving. But at least this will be our house that we can (eventually) do what we want with it. And owning it would mean not moving to a new place in a year, like we have been doing for the last four years.

My goals so far in the new place is to:

  • set up the kitchen around a science theme
  • figure out how I can possible cram everything I own into one little 2.54 x 2.82 m room (I think my stuff might end up in various places around the house)
  • eventually get rid of the tables with that yucky fake gold plating on the legs
  • get my video game marquees on display

More Jaw Dropping Sega Drama
The following was reported on Magic Box today:

Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the former head of United Game Artists announced he will be leaving Sega on October 10. He will create his own company, but exact details are still unclear. His past works include Manx TT Superbike, Sega Touring Car, Sega Rally 2, Rez and Space Channel 5.

Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I suspect this means no sequels for Rez or Space Channel 5. But I am really curious to what his new company will develop. I wonder if his leaving was the reason behind Sega's decision to merge UGA into Sonicteam, or if he is leaving Sega because of the merge. Best of luck to Tetsuya Mizuguchi and I look forward to his future projects.

Space Invaders 25th Anniversary
Taito is having a celebration in Japan (of course) for Space Invaders. There was a full page ad in Pop Teen (fashion & make-up) Magazine for it so it must be big.
Visit the official site and enjoy the bloop sounds and covet the Japanese merchandise you'll never own. Like Space Invader pillows. *sigh*...I think I might try to get my hands on theSpace Invaders soundtrack music CD featuring awesome artists like Towa Tei and Ken Ishii. Mmmmm... trance music goodness. I also might get the Space Invaders 25th Anniversary Bundle Pack. Aside from including all of the Space Invader games on one PS2 disk, you get a Space Invader "Table Top" controller!!

Yet more evidence I should have been born Japanese.

United Game Artists Signing Off.
United Game Artists, a development team of Sega has disbanded. UGA developed three of my favorite video games, the stylish fun and funky Space Channel 5 & Space Channel 5 Part 2 and the very cool Trance-music Shooter, Rez. The following letter is now on the mainpage of UGA's website:

Thank you so much for visiting u-ga.com.
Due to SEGA R&D studio's reorganization,
United Game Artists transferred its entire business into Sonicteam Ltd.
as of 1st October, 2003 JPT.

We sincerely appreciate your enthusiastic support.
Best wishes to you all!

For further information, please visit SONICTEAM

I'm quite sad about the announcement, but UGA doesn't produce too many games so I am not shocked by it either. I do not know what this will mean for the future of the J-Phone service or future sequels to Space Channel 5 or Rez. UGA was absorbed by SonicTeam so hopefully future projects by this development team will utilize the funk, flare and imagination of the amazing UGA.

My love for Space Channel 5 had inspired me to make a fanpage based on the games. I am still going to update this page regularly. Please visit my Unofficial Space Channel 5 Swingin' Web Space. I'm on track to do decent updates every couple of weeks. Also, Space Channel 5 Part 2 is coming out (finally) in North America in November for PS2. Make sure to check it out.

Sayonara, United Game Artists. It has been a pleasure.
